Normalisation of Environmental Quality Data
نویسندگان
چکیده
Normalisation of environmental data aims at clarifying the human impact on the environment by suppressing meteorologically driven fluctuations and other natural variation in the collected data. This paper shows that the procedures presently used to adjust air and water quality data have a common probabilistic framework. Furthermore, this framework can support a number of new techniques for the normalisation of both temporal and spatial patterns in environmental data. In particular, it is shown that deterministic, physics based models can be incorporated into statistical normalisation procedures.

Monotonic Regression for Assessment of Trends in Environmental Quality Data
Monotonic regression is a non-parametric method that is designed especially for applications in which the expected value of a response variable increases or decreases in one or more explanatory variables. Here, we show how the recently developed generalised pooladjacent-violators (GPAV) algorithm can greatly facilitate the assessment of trends in time series of environmental quality data. In pa...
متن کاملMeta-analysis: antibiotic therapy for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.
BACKGROUND Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) is an under-recognised diagnosis with important clinical implications when untreated. However, the optimal treatment regimen remains unclear. AIM To perform a systematic review and meta-analysis comparing the clinical effectiveness of antibiotic therapies in the treatment of symptomatic patients with documented SIBO. METHODS Four datab...
متن کاملThe Effects of Normalisation on the Ability of Business End-Users to Detect Data Anomalies: An Experimental Evaluation
With the proliferation of relational database programs for PCs and other platforms, many business end-users are creating, maintaining, and querying their own databases. More importantly, business end-users use the output of these queries as the basis for operational, tactical, and strategic decisions. Inaccurate data reduce the expected quality of these decisions. Implementing various input val...
متن کاملClassification of the European Union member states according to the relative level of sustainable development
Nowadays methods of measurement and assessment of the level of sustained development at the international, national and regional level are a current research problem, which requires multi-dimensional analysis. The relative assessment of the sustainability level of the European Union member states and the comparative analysis of the position of Poland relative to other countries was the aim of t...
متن کاملMetrics for Measuring Data Quality - Foundations for an Economic Data Quality Management
The article develops metrics for an economic oriented management of data quality. Two data quality dimensions are focussed: consistency and timeliness. For deriving adequate metrics several requirements are stated (e. g. normalisation, cardinality, adaptivity, interpretability). Then the authors discuss existing approaches for measuring data quality and illustrate their weaknesses. Based upon t...
